Today’s episode of Tuned In showcases songs from Neva Dinova (“Supercomputer” from YOU MAY ALREADY BE DREAMING), Ida (“Road to Ruin” from MY FAIR, MY DARK), and Thom Yorke’s brother Andy Yorke (“Rise and Fall” from SIMPLE). Nic also features Tilly and the Wall with an in-studio cover of Erasure’s “Respect” and some really fancy tap dancing by Jamie Pressnall, the percussionist for the band. There were lots of firsts tonight at Outside Lands. Radiohead was the first band to ever play at night in Golden Gate park. It was the first time I walked from said park across the *entire* city to my hotel since public transportation was overloaded. And, for the first time, I heard Thom Yorke laugh.
Its funny because earlier in the set, I was watching Thom on the big video screen thinking. 'Wow. He's a serious guy. I've never seen him smile.' Then, towards the end of the set, he sat down at the piano to play "You and Whose Army" and after just a few seconds, let out a huge laugh that stopped the song. I'm not quite sure what the joke was but it certainly was something exciting to witness, along with incredible versions of "Karma Police," "Fake Plastic Trees," "Air Bag," "Exit Music," and "All I Need" - one of my favorite tracks off their latest album that was sadly interrupted by sound problems. We all tried to keep singing along but it just wasn't the same.
Aside from a painfully long walk, it was a great first day. Oh, and I can't forget to mention Lyrics Born. I needed a late afternoon pick me up and he was perfect.
