New Guest DJ sets with Jason Schwartzman, Padma Lakshmi, Danny DeVito, Peter Berg, and Neil LaBute are up now.
The Guest DJ Project invites actors, authors, chefs, athletes, directors, tech entrepreneurs and others to share their musical passions with a KCRW DJ. Guests are asked to choose five songs that have inspired them throughout their life – a herculean task for any music lover. However, our gracious guests have explored the soundtrack to their lives and opened their hearts to share confessional tales about their youth, the ups and downs of their careers, and more. All is revealed through their song choices.
If you missed them, check out last month’s guests -- Conan O’Brian, John Cusack, Garth Jennings, Saffron Burrows, and Jason Reitman.
Coming up: world champion surfer Kelly Slater, comedian Janeane Garafalo, DIGG Founder Kevin Rose, Director/Skater Stacy Peralta, actor Zach Braff, Comic artist Tim Sale, actress Famke Janssen, architect Thom Mayne, and skate legend Tony Hawk.
We also started a handy little newsletter so you will get a note every time a new set is posted. That way you don’t have to remember to check back because, really, there are way too many things to remember these days!

In the days leading up to the Academy Awards®, Director Jason Reitman dropped by KCRW to play us a handful of songs that have inspired him and contributed to his creative process for “Juno” and the critically-acclaimed “Thank You For Smoking.” He brought in his laptop and sat down with DJ Jason Bentley for an eight minute guest DJ set. Find out why music is his drug of choice, his soundtrack to crafting a lead character in a dark satire, the lengths he will go to track down a song that gets his attention, and how lo-fi music is the new punk.
Reitman’s passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of a variety of music made for some interesting and surprising choices, including tracks by the Penguin Café Orchestra to Steve Winwood and RJD2. If you’ve ever wanted to get into the musical mind of an Oscar nominee, now is your chance!
