KCRW DJ Jason Eldredge announced this weekend that he has been accepted to Columbia University in New York and will be leaving Los Angeles to go back to school and continue his studies. Jason has been spinning on Saturdays from 10pm to midnight and his final broadcast will be Saturday, August 22. He will be greatly missed by his KCRW family (although we’re proud of his achievement!)
From Jason:
“KCRW has been a home away from home for me from the moment I started as a volunteer at the front desk in 2001 and I will hopefully be able to continue my involvement with the station in some capacity on the East Coast while I am gone. It was not an easy decision for me to make, but I am very excited for the new adventure that awaits!”
A couple recent highlights in our archives from Jason’s show include an exclusive mix from Jacques Renault --NYC-based producer, DJ and one half of the DFA duo Runaway -- and a special set from London-based underground disco aficionados James Hillard and Jim Stanton, creators of Horse Meat Disco.

Not surprisingly, comedian Janeane Garofalo had Jason Eldredge in stitches for a good part of her Guest DJ set – whether it was telling stories about her drunken antics to Badly Drawn Boy or her childhood music crushes. The actress, who will be featured on the upcoming season of “24,” picked a lot of bands from across the pond but also turned us on to a Boston band that was not yet in our vast music library. I also learned something really interesting – she doesn’t do computers. No email for this gal. Apparently she CAN do a split, but not very well…listen here to hear the story

I know it is rather traditional for music blogs to post something on new CD releases on Tuesdays but since KCRW is far from traditional, I think I’ll post on new music that is simply catching the ear of those here at the station.
The Ting Tings – The phone rings with interested listeners almost every time Nic plays this UK band. Dan Wilcox (Playing With Fire) and Chris Douridas (New Ground) are also fans.
Black Kids – This was THE buzz band of CMJ. I didn’t discover them until I returned but I think they live up to the hype. Nic likes “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You.” It looks like Jason Eldredge (Accidental Rhythm) is spinning a remix of one of their other tracks “Hurricane Jane.”
Duke Spirit – Both Nic and Jason Bentley are spinning songs off their new EP, Ex Voto, on Rough Trade.
Shocking Pinks – Anne Litt (A-Track) and Liza Richardson (The Drop) have both taken a liking to this New Zealand band. I recommend “End of the World.” Check out Pitchfork’s review…
