We were so happy to host the U.S. debut of James’ new songs this morning. The energy in the studio was just incredible and the control room was packed.
Nic is a longtime fan since his days as a DJ in Woodstock, where he first hosted live sessions with the band. Today marks the first time the UK faves have ever performed on Morning Becomes Eclectic. I feel like James is a band a LOT of people love that don’t really get the attention they deserve, at least here in the United States (Tim Booth explains a bit about that in the interview.) They apparently had 17 hits in the UK! (not that they’re counting.)
Today’s set was all new tracks including melodic rockers like “Waterfall” and “Oh My Heart” off their first album in 7 years. Tim calls the title track, “Hey Ma,” a “happy protest song” and tells Nic all about their breakup and their reconciliation as a band.
They are playing a not-so-secret show at Spaceland tomorrow night for those in LA. Go here for tickets and check out the set at KCRW.com.

UK faves James will debut songs from their new album on Morning Becomes Eclectic tomorrow. It's the first time they are playing them live in the U.S.!
“Hey Ma” is the band’s first album in seven years. Nic’s been playing “Waterfall,” just one of many great tracks on the CD. The band will perform songs from their new album as well as some of their classic hits.
Personally, I have a big connection to James. “Laid” remains one of my favorite albums and never fails to take me right back to my high school days when I hear it (I can’t believe it came out 15 years ago!).
They haven’t announced U.S. tour dates yet but stay tuned…and tune in tomorrow for the live performance at 89.9FM or KCRW.com at 11:15am PST (or check the archives!)
