KCRW’s online music channel Eclectic24 will be featuring a heavy dose of music for Halloween tomorrow so feel free to make it your party soundtrack. Also, our Music Librarian Eric J Lawrence got the party started with his show late Sunday night (midnight to 3a, technically Monday AM)

I’ve been doing a special Halloween edition of my show for over 10 years now, and it’s still lots of fun tracking down both the spooky and the kooky songs for the holiday.  They can range from the explicitly creepy (The Essex’s “Cemetery Stomp”) to the seasonally goofy (the late Soupy Sales’ “My Baby’s Got a Crush on Frankenstein”), and from the old school (Louis Armstrong’s “The Skeleton in the Closet”) to the contemporary (The Starlight Mints’ “Coffins ‘R’ Us”).  It’s an annual full-on spook-tacular!!!

Eric J Lawrence hosted his annual holiday-themed show this past weekend and it is now available in the archives. This year marked the 8th edition of the holiday show. One of his collaborators is Jason Groman, a KCRW staff member responsible for loading in each and every band that plays at the station, among many other things. Groman searches record stores throughout the year to look for the quirkiest Christmas songs he can find. It’s a surprising mash up of holiday music that is good, hilariously bad and just plain out there!

Tim Sale Batman

We will be featuring a Guest DJ set by “Heroes” artist Tim Sale NEXT Wednesday. Tim has worked on some of the most iconic comic characters of all time -- including Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and the Hulk – and he reveals his code song for finishing a comic and his soundtrack for inking in the early morning.

First off, thanks to ALL of you who donated a little extra to the Music Match -- more than 24,000 KCRW subscribers contributed to the effort!

Now for an update -- the station launched the Music Match last June to raise the funds needed to restore and preserve the more than 60,000 albums and exclusive live performances in the Music Library and create a system that would give our DJs easy access to each and every track.  

The campaign is now coming to a close and we are celebrating throughout the month of June -- KCRW DJs will delve into the music archives featuring rare tracks and performances, newly preserved in state-of-the art digital format.

Listen in to your favorite shows and you will hear gems from the archives. Also, visit KCRW.com for a special selection of streaming tracks from the archives each day.  Music Librarian/ DJ (Sun, Mid – 3am) Eric J Lawrence will choose one song a day from the archives to feature streaming on the site including; exclusive live performance tracks from My Morning Jacket, Badly Drawn Boy, Dori Caymmi, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, as well as rare and unusual recordings from Peter Gabriel, Serge Gainsbourg, Baz Luhrmann, legendary Los Angeles Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, and more.

Michael Barnes will take over on Tuesdays at midnight starting next week.

He has hosted specialty shows covering blues, soul, jazz and punk music at radio stations in Atlanta, Madison and Berkeley -- where he also received his PhD in Sociology from the University of California.
 
Eric J Lawrence will move to Sundays at midnight, following Gary Calamar, and Morgan Rhodes moves to the Monday night slot.
