Denver’s Devotchka shared their inspired gypsy and Easter European influenced songs this morning on MBE. It’s hard not to think of the movie Little Miss Sunshine when I hear their music. They were asked to create a score (thanks in big part to KCRW DJ Anne Litt) and the music became its own character in the movie, capturing the cathartic and chaotic road trip perfectly. It was a beautiful movie and hearing the music this morning brought up all the emotions I felt watching it -- the unbridled joy of expectation, the sadness of disappointment and the realization that being true to yourself is the best thing you can do in life, especially if you have great people around to support you. The music is poetic and beautiful yet fun and fanciful. Also, they had a fantastic tuba with Christmas lights in it, so it was visually exciting as well. I highly recommend checking out their live set HERE
