Sara Lov is on her own after making a splash with Dustin
O”Halloran as Devics. The band is on “indefinite hiatus” as
Dustin is now living in Europe, but Sara put
together a disc of her own tunes that should keep all their fans happy. She played
great new songs like “Frankie,” as well as a cover of Arcade Fires
“My Body is a Cage.”

Every year, thousands of people travel from all around the world to the Coachella Valley for one of the premier music festivals in the U.S. This event happens practically in our backyard and KCRW is proud to have hosted many of this year’s headliners and main attractions for live sessions here at our basement studio in Santa Monica. For a preview of the festivities, check out KCRW.com/Coachella, as well as an interview Jason did earlier this week with Coachella founder Paul Tollett.
Also, video from our SXSW sessions at Tequila Mockingbird with PJ Harvey and John Parish and Peter Bjorn and John are now archived on the site and our SXSW page.

KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole is a big fan of Clutchy Hopkins and got a sweet surprise when the artist called him up last week to say he was recording a piece just for him, a tribute to the great Brazilian arranger/composer Arthur Verocai. Jeremy got it too late to play it on air, but this week he played the new track and previous exclusives the artist has recorded just for him.
Luckily, you don’t need to stay up after the midnight hours to hear all the good stuff that goes down during Jeremy’s show since each one is archived and available on demand until the next one airs HERE. (click on “recent shows”)
Skip ahead to about 2:30am to hear the Clutchy Hopkins tracks and other fantastic selections.

Ben Harper returned to the KCRW studios with his new band the Relentless7 – consisting of the former rhythm section of local band Oliver Future -- Jesse Ingalls and Jordan Richardson -- and Guitarist Jason Mozersky. Truth be told, I’ve know the “three Js” for a few years and I see an excitement and fire in their eyes I’ve never seen. I know from listening to his music that Ben Harper is an inspiring fellow, but to see it work its magic on people I know was very special for me. All of those good vibes and that collaborative spirit are what make his new album -- which was written in recorded in 30 days -- work. It’s been noted almost everywhere that it’s a much more rocking album than his previous work but as Ben told Jason yesterday, the rock has always been there. In fact, most of his albums reflect a variety of influences and genres. This one just happens to be a bit harder – thanks in large part to his new backing band (they’ll hate me for saying this but the J’s were also part of a band called Pudge Zeppelin. If you think they rock with Ben, imagine them playing Zeppelin. Best cover band I’ve ever seen).
They are just getting started and will be touring for most of Spring. Check them out at a venue/festival near you.
Also in the MBE archives this week – UK rockers Razorlight (who played favorites from all their albums, including “Golden Touch” and “In the Morning”) and Orenda Fink of Azure Ray with Cedric LeMoyne of Remy Zero teaming up as O+S.

Very exciting news -- KCRW DJ Liza Richardson's remix of Femi Kuti's song "Eh Oh" will be included in tomorrow night's episode of CSI: NY!
It's part of a five-song remix CD called Femi Kuti vs. KCRW Soundclash that we put together with Mercer Street/Downtown Records and offered as a special bonus during our pledge drive. Some copies are still available as a member premium.
It just so happens that the music supervisor who chose the track for CSI is a former KCRW volunteer! Rudy Chung previously worked on Anne Litt's show.
Liza is a music supervisor herself so this extra special fun for her. She will be working on the new "Melrose Place" series and is currently choosing music for the TV show "Lie to Me." She has also been working on "In the Motherhood," which debuts on Thursday.
