The Virgins Bring NYC Nightlife to MBE
When I saw The Virgins open up for the Delta Spirit at the Troubadour a few months ago, I rushed over to their merch desk to buy a CD. They were that good. It was just an EP but it lived in my car for weeks – which is fitting since they told Nic during the interview that they were aiming at making party music for driving and dancing. Their music isn’t complicated – it’s just totally fun, a bit of new-wave with just enough NYC attitude to make it edgy. “Rich Girls” is the song most likely to get stuck in my head but “She’s Expensive” and “Private Affair” are also great.
The guys poured out onto the street to smoke some ciggies after the show. They told me they were nervous, which surprised me. You never would have known! They were also big on rolling up the bottom of their jeans – another fashion trend that seems to be finding it’s way back from the ‘80s. They were cute – here’s me talking to Donald. Nice guy.
I also found out they will be touring with the Black Kids later this summer. Definitely catch them on that tour if you can. And check out today's set in the archives here
