School of Seven Bells Make Their MBE Debut
When I went to CMJ in October, The School of Seven Bells was one of the most talked about bands of the festival. And I missed them! It was one of the only bands I didn’t get to see that I had on my short list. Luckily, I got a chance this morning when they visited Morning Becomes Eclectic, and brought their psychedelic, beat heavy sound. The vocals are courtesy of twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, who joined with former Secret Machines member Benjamin Curtis in 2007. They initially met while their separate bands were opening for Interpol and the name comes from a supposed pickpocket training academy (though they haven’t been able to verify its existence).
Songs off their album Alpinisms, on Ghostly International, translated very well live. They’ve been getting airplay across the music shows here and are definitely a band to watch. Check it out
