Miami’s Best Export Iron And Wine on MBE

As a Miami native, I can tell you Sam Beam is the city’s best musical export and I was lucky enough to tell him that myself when I ran into him in the hallways of KCRW this morning. It’s hard to miss Sam, with his big burly beard, but he has such a calm demeanor that he really doesn’t rule a room…until he picks up a guitar.

His set was just enchanting – his songs are simply complicated and his vocals are  incomparable. You can tell he lives a very different type of lifestyle from many of the artists that make their way through our studio and he confirmed it when he told Nic he lives in Austin’s hill country with his FOUR daughters. Wow!  Between setes of music, they caught up on what has happened since his initial visit in 2002.
