Camera Obscura on MBE
I’ve been obsessed with the new Camera Obscura album, along with many folks here at the station, since I first heard it. Sweet, upbeat, pop ditties that put a smile on my face, even if the lyrics aren’t as cheerful as the music sounds. Singer Tracyanne Campbell says she just writes what comes naturally and it is important to “embrace the sadness.” She says creating music for the band is a cathartic experience for her. MBE producer Ariana Morgenstern likens them to 50’s girl groups like the Ronettes (even though male guitarist Kenny McKeeve is clearly a HUGE part of what makes them sound unique). The Scotland-based band is currently touring the U.S. for the fourth time so catch them if you can.
